Boxing's problem was never the talent — it was always the promoters
The talent pool in boxing is as deep as it has ever been. What kills the sport is that the best fights take years to make, because rival promoters, networks, and sanctioning bodies all have a veto and no incentive to cooperate. Fans are asked to be patient for matchups that should be routine. MMA didn't overtake boxing because its fighters were better. It won because one organization could book the fight everyone wanted, on a date, and deliver it. Boxing has the athletes. It just refuses to get out of its own way.
