That's a completely rational individual choice for any player weighing a franchise contract against years of underpaid four-day cricket, but collectively it's reshaping what young cricketers actually spend their developing years practicing. Test cricket demands a different skill set almost entirely, patience against the second new ball, building an innings over a full day, bowling long defensive spells, none of which gets meaningfully rehearsed in a format built around boundary-hitting and death-over execution.
